In 2021, Switzerland Tourism (ST) and its industry partners launched the sustainability movement called Swisstainable with one clear long-term vision – to become the most sustainable travel destination worldwide. Swisstainable is their strategy for sustainable tourism with an important core element: a holistic sustainability programme that builds on existing sustainability credentials.

The programme is open to all tourism service providers in Switzerland and aims to create transparency and orientation towards guests in the sustainability-certification jungle. Over the past 2.5 years, more than 2,300 touristic organisations have committed their efforts to this common vision and daily, more organisations are joining. After the successful launch boost in 2021, the team identified two main challenges for the post-launch-period – to further manifest the movement among the industry partners and to increase the awareness of the Swisstainable label as orientation and sustainability guide for (potential) guests.
