For decades, Baltimore carried a heavy narrative burden, defined by headlines about violence, disinvestment, and the gritty realism of The Wire. Tragedies like the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in 2024 only reinforced the story of a city in crisis. But beneath the surface, momentum was building. Homicides dropped by 50% thanks to a new Violence Reduction Strategy. The region became one of just 31 federally designated Tech Hubs, under the CHIPS & Science Act, a $10-billion initiative to strengthen U.S. innovation and manufacturing competitiveness. Vacant buildings became new stages, labs and homes. People noticed. Restaurants drew foodies from D.C., and avant-garde hospitality brands like ASH saw opportunity, not risk. At the centre of this shift: a transformed Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC).

Following its merger with the Economic Alliance and new leadership (the first new CEO in more than two decades), the GBC released an ambitious 10-year agenda to position the organisation to create and lead an economic path for the Baltimore region.
