For Moldova, wine is more than heritage — it is the lifeblood of the economy, sustaining exports, jobs, and investment. Yet despite centuries of viticultural tradition, the country’s role in the global wine economy has too often been overlooked, overshadowed by larger producers and outdated perceptions.

The selection of Chișinău as host for the 46th World Congress of Vine and Wine in June 2025 represented a turning point. The Congress was not simply a scientific gathering; it became a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reposition Moldova on the global stage. It offered the chance to showcase the country’s terroir, research, and expertise, while also presenting Moldova as a serious and innovative economic player in the international wine industry. More than 500 experts, researchers, and policymakers from 51 countries were expected to converge in Chișinău. With effective communication, the Congress could serve as more than an event — it could act as a catalyst for boosting wine exports, attracting investment, promoting wine tourism, and strengthening Moldova’s country brand.
