The City of SeaTac has long been overshadowed by the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which sees 26 million travellers pass through every year. Most treat the city as a stopover rather than a destination. Yet just beyond the terminals sits one of Washington State's most culturally diverse communities, home to Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Mexican, Filipino, Somali, and many other family-run, immigrant-owned restaurants, cafes, and markets.
These businesses had deep roots but almost no visibility. Most relied heavily on a single ethnic or local community for their customer base, surviving but never thriving. Outside their own community, there was little awareness that these businesses even existed.
