New South Wales (NSW), Australia’s economic engine, has invested significantly in building a safe, vibrant, and diverse night-time economy, underpinned by city centres, entertainment precincts, and local high streets. Yet decisionmakers lacked evidence needed to understand how these places performed after dark and how they were changing over time.
Data existed across multiple organisations and providers, but it was fragmented, inconsistent, expensive, and difficult to access. As a result, state and local governments, businesses, and industry stakeholders often relied on partial information when planning investments, evaluating initiatives or measuring outcomes.
