City Nation Place UK 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined us for City Nation Place UK 2026 in Bradford.

Here are the highlights:

  • Your logo builds recognition, but your brand builds understanding.

  • You can activate different layers of your place to meet the needs of different audiences but first you have to understand who you are, what you want to be, and then you'll be able build complementary layers of place identity.

  • When a place’s story identifies and builds on unifying values, different members of a community can focus on what they have in common, rather than what divides them.

  • The link between culture, community, economic development, and your visitor economy is clear. Bring all your stakeholders to the table and create an ecosystem where everyone can see where and how they can contribute to the overall development of your place.

  • Culture can shift perceptions, but you need consistency and momentum to move impact beyond the event itself and deliver longer-lasting legacy.

  • Your place brand is really put to the test during the nighttime. Do the promises you’re making still hold strong at 2am? And if not, what steps do you need to put in place to close those gaps?

  • The growth of AI means that investing in a long-term approach to owning and managing your place reputation is more important than ever and that place branding teams already have many of the right skills to navigate those challenges. However, don’t be afraid to be critical about what skills you ARE missing and invest in upskilling your team to meet those needs.

  • Be bold, be ambitious, and be fearless. Don’t be afraid to jump on unexpected opportunities that arise. If you have a clear brand strategy in place, it provides a framework that allows you to rapidly adapt on the fly.

  • A place brand isn’t the final add-on. It’s the foundation that everything else is built on. Even if you’re operating with no budget, ensuring that every decision is considered through the lens of place branding means that you start building a stronger place, one policy at a time.
